Omar Sadat has been re-elected as president of the Gulshan Society for a two-year term, as his “Love for Gulshan” panel won the election unopposed, officials said on Tuesday.
Mujibur Rahman Mridha, a businessman by profession, was elected secretary general of the society’s 12th Executive Committee.
The election was held in a fair and peaceful manner under the overall supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Alam, according to a statement from the society.
Omar Sadat is a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and has long been active as an urban rights activist.
The newly elected vice-presidents are Abdul Majed Miah and Eva Rahman.
Ali Ashfaq was elected treasurer, while Khadem Md Raiyan Sadid and Jaya Kabir were elected joint secretaries. Mahfuzul Azam Romel will serve as joint treasurer.
The members elected to the executive committee are Faizur Rahman Khan, Aminul Islam Chowdhury, Regina Nasir, Farzana Chowdhury, and Iftekhar Rahman.
Additionally, Imtiaz Mohammad Mohsin, Barrister Quamrun Nahar Mahmud, Morshedul Alam Chakladar, Pulak Poddar, and Zafarul Islam were elected as chairpersons of six zones.
Maintaining continuity with the past, the new committee is expected to play a more effective role in ensuring civic services, security, environmental development, and social harmony in the Gulshan area, residents said.
