Singer and actor Tahsan Khan has once again been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR, with his mandate formally extended on Wednesday.
Tahsan has been associated with the humanitarian agency for several years, working to amplify the voices of displaced communities and draw attention to refugee rights. Since taking on the role, he has been involved in a range of initiatives focused on awareness building, public engagement and advocacy.
Speaking about the renewal, the artiste highlighted the ongoing humanitarian situation faced by Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, nearly a decade after they fled violence in Myanmar. He emphasised the need for sustained empathy and support until a long-term solution is achieved.
During his visits to refugee settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Tahsan has engaged directly with families affected by displacement. He has described their resilience as a source of inspiration and expressed a commitment to sharing their experiences with wider audiences.
The UNHCR’s representative in Bangladesh welcomed the continuation of Tahsan’s role, noting his consistent efforts to bring attention to refugee issues and his ability to connect with the public on humanitarian concerns.
In recent years, the performer has taken part in field visits, awareness campaigns and international observances such as World Refugee Day. He also visited camps following a major fire incident, where he witnessed the challenges faced by those living in fragile conditions.
Bangladesh currently hosts over a million Rohingya refugees, most of whom reside in densely populated camps in Cox’s Bazar. As part of a global network of UNHCR ambassadors, Tahsan will continue to support efforts aimed at protecting displaced populations and promoting durable solutions.
