Nurul Huque Nur, the president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and lawmaker for Patuakhali-3, is set to join the new government’s cabinet.
Abu Hanif, a member of the Gana Odhikar Parishad higher council and media coordinator, confirmed that Nur has been invited to take the oath as a state minister.
Hanif said the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Tuesday afternoon. It is expected that Nur will be given responsibility for the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Earlier in the day, Nur has taken oath as a lawmaker, but did not take oath as a member of the Constitutional Reform Council. Rumeen Farhana, who secured win from Brahmanbaria-2, did the same.
Nur first gained national recognition through the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections in 2019.
In that election, held after a 28-year hiatus, he contested as a leader of the quota reform movement and defeated the then-BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon to be elected as Vice President (VP).
Following this victory, he became widely known as “VP Nur”.
In the 13th Parliamentary Election, he was elected as an MP from the Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa and Dashmina) constituency, contesting with the ‘Truck’ symbol.
