Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Amin Ur Rashid Yasin has said there is no reason to be anxious about the supply of fuel oil in the country as Bangladesh has sufficient reserves to meet demand for the next month.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a programme organised by the Cumilla District branch of the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association at the Cumilla Stadium Gymnasium on Saturday.
The programme included an introductory meeting, iftar and prayer session attended by local business leaders.
The minister said although the ongoing war in the Middle East has created some pressure on the international supply chain, Bangladesh is not facing any fuel oil crisis.
He also said the next shipment of oil is already on its way to the country.
Addressing the business community, Yasin urged traders to ensure the proper use of electricity and avoid unnecessary wastage.
He specifically called on shop owners not to use excessive decorative lighting in markets during the upcoming Eid season.
“The world is currently passing through a difficult period. Therefore, we must all act with calculation by reducing the wastage of electricity,” he said.
The minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has entrusted him with an important responsibility and noted that the ministries under his charge are directly linked to the lives and livelihoods of people across the country.
He sought the cooperation and prayers of the public to carry out his responsibilities effectively.
Cumilla Shop Owners Association President Syed Jahangir Alam presided over the programme.
Among the special guests were Bangladesh Nationalist Party Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Cumilla Division Md Mostaq Mia, Bangladesh Shop Owners Association President Helal Uddin, Bangladesh Shop Owners Association Secretary General Md Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan and Cumilla City BNP General Secretary Yusuf Molla Tipu.
Cumilla Shop Owners Association General Secretary Alhajj Jamal Khandaker delivered the welcome address.
The programme was conducted by Cumilla Shop Owners Association Organising Secretary Mohammad Nazrul Islam and Senior Joint General Secretary Md Manjurul Alam Bhuiyan Manjur, while other business leaders also spoke at the event.
