Bangladesh cricket witnessed a significant administrative development on Tuesday evening as newly appointed sports state minister Aminul Haque moved swiftly to remove restrictions on journalists entering the country’s main cricket venue.
The directive came just hours after Aminul formally assumed office, signalling an immediate shift in policy regarding media access at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
On 31 January 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had issued fresh guidelines limiting journalists’ access to the stadium, citing security concerns.
Under those rules, media personnel were allowed entry only on match days, during official press conferences, BCB-invited events, and pre-approved training sessions. The decision had drawn concern within the sports media community, as journalists spend much of their professional time at the Mirpur venue covering domestic and international cricket activities.
Speaking at a press conference later in the evening, Aminul made it clear that he was unaware of the extent of the restrictions. He assured reporters that the matter would be resolved without delay.
“I was not even aware that journalists were not being allowed to enter. You will go to the ground tomorrow. I will look into it. If there are any problems, inform me. I am telling the CEO to ensure that from tomorrow you can work freely,” he said.
In a decisive gesture, the minister telephoned the BCB chief executive officer in front of the assembled journalists and instructed him to lift the restrictions with immediate effect.
