On the day of the 13th parliamentary election, scheduled for 12 February, crossing through any land port to go beyond the border will not be permitted.

According to a source in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the restriction will remain in force for 24 hours starting Thursday morning.

In a directive issued on Tuesday, the ministry ordered that all outbound immigration at the country’s land ports be suspended for 24 hours on election day.

The decision was taken to ensure that no risky individuals can enter the country during the election period and that no one under a travel ban can leave.

Voting in 299 constituencies will begin at 7:30am on Thursday and continue uninterrupted until 4:30pm.

The Election Commission has already announced that, due to the referendum, the publication of results will be slightly delayed this time.
