Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Adviser, has asserted that no power is capable of disrupting the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
He made the remarks on Friday around 11:30am while speaking to reporters after visiting the Sureshwar Darbar Sharif in Naria, Shariatpur.
Shafiqul Alam said the people of Bangladesh are anticipating the election with great interest. “Anyone who attempts to take the law into their own hands or destabilise law and order will be dealt with strictly. Those who try to obstruct the election with unethical demands will also face firm action from the government,” he cautioned.
When asked about the participation of the banned organisation Awami League, the Press Secretary claimed that the party had “removed itself” from the electoral process. “They said they would carry out a peaceful political movement, but instead their government and their activists took to the streets with rifles and pistols, killing innocent youths,” he alleged.
The Press Secretary further said the party had miscalculated public patience. “They thought that because people remained silent for 15 years, they would remain silent for another 15. They have now sidelined themselves,” he added.
