Assuring the public of a peaceful and festive national election in February 2026, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus declared on Tuesday that no external entities would be allowed to influence the upcoming election.
He emphasised that the election would reflect the aspirations of all citizens and political parties, aiming to shape a prosperous future for Bangladesh.
“This election is not just for the interim government; it is for the people of Bangladesh and all political parties. It will be a reflection of the collective desire to build a self-reliant Bangladesh, moving forward with confidence and autonomy,” the chief adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters on Tuesday evening.
The chief adviser stressed the importance of safeguarding the election process from any foreign involvement. “Efforts will be made to prevent any outside interference in the election,” Alam added.
He was speaking to the press outside the State Guest House Jamuna after Yunus’ meeting with leaders from various political parties, including AB Party, Nagorik Oikya, Gana Sanghati Andolan, Gono Odhikar Parishad, LDP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Gano Front, and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.
Chief adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was also present during the briefing.
Addressing the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, Alam mentioned that the event would be celebrated peacefully across the country. Yunus urged everyone to enjoy the festivities responsibly, maintaining peace and safety.
Seeking input from political parties, the chief adviser assured that the next election, scheduled for the first half of February, would be held in a celebratory spirit. He also expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring a positive experience for first-time voters, who missed out on the previous three elections.
Prof Yunus emphasized that every citizen would have the opportunity to vote, ensuring no one would be excluded from participating in the election.
“There may be attempts to disrupt the election process by those who oppose the interim government reaching its election goal. While some signs of this have already appeared, we must stay vigilant. The election will proceed in February, and power will be handed over to a duly elected government,” Alam concluded, quoting Chief Adviser Yunus.
