National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah has said that the question of compromise with the Awami League, the party ousted from power during the mass movement, is irrelevant.
He also dismissed as untrue the claims of any distance between the NCP and BNP-Jamaat, reaffirming the party’s stance on maintaining unity among reformist political forces.
He made the remarks on the first day of his three-day organisational tour of the Barishal division while addressing the NCP district coordination meeting at the Pirojpur Upazila Parishad auditorium.
“Bangladesh is moving forward without the Awami League. Since 5 August last year, the country has existed without them. The question of compromise with the Awami League does not arise,” Hasnat said.
He added, “We will maintain closeness with those who support reforms and distance with those who oppose them.”
In response to a question from journalists about whether there was any distance with BNP or Jamaat, he said simply, “No.”
The meeting discussed strategies to strengthen the party’s organisational structure and other related matters. It was also announced that the new district committee would be declared soon.
