National Legal Aid Services Organisation (NLASO) has realised more than Tk322 crore in compensation for financially insolvent justice seekers, according to a report published on the organisation’s official website.
The report provides detailed accounts of government-funded legal assistance delivered through NLASO between 2009 and December 2025.
Authorities first introduced the service at the district level to support underprivileged citizens. They later expanded operations to include legal aid offices at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, as well as services inside prisons nationwide.
According to the report, a total of Tk322,37,58,375 has been realised as compensation for indigent litigants through both pre-case and post-case settlements.
Of the total sum, Tk315,40,46,459 was recovered through NLASO offices operating across 64 districts. Another Tk6,97,11,916 was realised through the labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
During the period from 2009 to December 2025, the organisation provided government-funded legal support to 13,74,133 beneficiaries under the NLASO framework.
Currently, the programme delivers services through 64 district NLASO offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid office, labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and a national helpline call centre offering toll-free assistance at 16699.
The government implements the initiative under the Legal Aid Services Act to ensure that financially insolvent and disadvantaged individuals can access legal representation at state expense.
The activities of NLASO are carried out under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
