A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk one crore in compensation for each of the families of six newborns who died at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar area.
The petition also seeks a court directive for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and legal action against those found responsible.
Lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ on Sunday, saying it requests a thorough probe into the deaths, prosecution of those responsible, and compensation for the affected families.
The High Court is expected to hear the petition on Monday.
The six newborns died within hours of one another in the early hours of 27May while receiving treatment in the hospital’s post-operative ward, triggering widespread concern and public outcry.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) formed a high-level three-member committee to investigate the deaths.
The committee’s report reportedly identified a range of shortcomings, including management failures, environmental and operational irregularities, and negligence by physicians and nurses on duty.
