Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim paid homage to the martyrs of the Armed Forces, who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Liberation War, by placing a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday.
Following the tribute, the Navy chief signed the visitors’ book kept at Shikha Anirban.
Later, upon his arrival at Naval Headquarters, Vice Admiral Misbah-ul-Azim was welcomed by the Principal Staff Officers of the headquarters, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
A smartly dressed contingent of the Bangladesh Navy then accorded him a guard of honour.
The newly appointed Navy chief inspected the guard and received the salute in the presence of senior naval officials, including the Principal Staff Officers.
According to the ISPR release, the Navy chief is committed to developing the Bangladesh Navy into a strong and modern blue-water force in line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The release said the Navy aims to strengthen the security of the country’s extensive maritime boundaries and support the blue economy by integrating advanced technologies, including modern frigates, submarines, and sophisticated sonar and radar systems.
Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim assumed office as the Chief of the Bangladesh Navy on 23 July, 2026.
