A new 10-coach shuttle train has been inaugurated at Chittagong University (CU), replacing one of the university’s older trains.
CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan inaugurated the train at Battali Railway Station in Chattogram at 7:30am on Thursday.
He said the new train will improve transport facilities for students and replace a long-serving shuttle train.
Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) Vice-President Ibrahim Hossain Roni welcomed the new addition. He said students will benefit from the upgraded coaches.
He also renewed the demand for another shuttle train to meet the growing transport needs of students.
University officials and railway authorities attended the inauguration ceremony. They included Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Chattogram DRM Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, and student representatives.
The shuttle train service at Chittagong University was introduced in 1979 during the tenure of former President Ziaur Rahman.
