The government has constituted a seven-member high-level committee aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining licences and clearances for the establishment of new industrial units.
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday.
Commerce Minister Khandker Muktadir has been appointed as the chairperson of the committee.
The other members of the high-powered body include the adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the cabinet secretary, the principal secretary to the prime minister, the secretary of the Finance Division, and the secretary of the Ministry of Environment.
According to the notification, the committee is mandated to provide recommendations to facilitate the easy acquisition of industrial licences and clearances.
Furthermore, it will offer suggestions regarding professional licences to streamline all initial clearances or No Objection Certificates (NOCs) required for setting up new factories.
The committee has also been tasked with the classification of licences to identify and recommend the removal of mandatory requirements for less significant ones. The Ministry of Textiles and Jute will provide secretarial support to the committee, the notification added.
