Heavy rains have submerged Boro paddy on nearly half of the land in Khaliajuri upazila, leaving farmers facing losses.
Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Khandakar Mushfiqur Rahman on Thursday visited several haors in the upazila to assess the situation.
He assured affected farmers of three months’ incentives and pledged steps to address their problems.
The deputy commissioner spoke with farmers in Boalir Haor, Jiakhra Haor, Naotana, Birbillah, and areas in Khaliajuri sadar, including Kirtonkhola and Guchigai.
Farmers highlighted mismanagement in agriculture, labour shortages, a lack of harvesting machines, unplanned embankments, and the failure to dredge over a hundred water bodies for years.
He said the issues would be addressed and support would be provided in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement.
Later, he attended an exchange meeting at the upazila parishad hall room.
The meeting was chaired by Khaliajuri Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nadir Hossain Shamim.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner for Revenue Sukhmoy Sarkar, Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Md Amirul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Delwar Hossain, and Khaliajuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nasir Uddin also spoke.
