At least 40,000 individuals in the United States were shot in 2025, according to a report released by the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).
These incidents resulted in 14,643 deaths and 26,233 injuries.
The GVA, a non‑profit organisation established in 2013 to provide free public access to accurate data on gun‑related violence in the US, reported at least 408 mass shootings last year.
These events are defined as shootings in which four or more people are killed or injured, excluding any shooters who may also have been harmed.
Among the victims, 224 children aged 11 or younger lost their lives to gunfire, and another 461 children in that age range were injured. Additionally, 1,031 teenagers between 12 and 17 years old were killed, while 2,740 were wounded.
The organisation’s data on gun‑related deaths covers homicides, murders, defensive gun use, and accidental shootings.
However, using preliminary estimates from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the GVA said, “24,090 people died in firearm suicides in 2025.”
Local media highlighted that although deaths and injuries from shootings have been declining for four consecutive years since 2021, the total for 2025 still exceeded 40,000.
