NCP opts not to contest Khaleda Zia’s constituencies: Patwary

The National Citizen Party (NCP) will not nominate any candidate in the constituencies where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is contesting in the upcoming 13th national elections, the party’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary announced on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media, Patwary said, “The NCP will not nominate any candidate in Khaleda Zia’s constituencies. Following the July Mass Uprising, a renewed sense of optimism has emerged, Khaleda Zia is contesting the election, and we warmly welcome her. Her uncompromising and courageous leadership has greatly strengthened democracy in Bangladesh.”

On Monday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) released its preliminary list of candidates for 237 constituencies ahead of the national elections.

According to the list, Khaleda Zia has been nominated to contest from Feni-1, Dinajpur-3, and Bogura-7. A day after the BNP announcement, the NCP declared that it would not contest in those constituencies.
