Leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) visited BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital on Saturday to inquire about her health and urged the public to pray for her recovery.
The three-member team, led by NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, arrived at the hospital around 10:15am. Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara and Chief Organiser for Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah were also part of the delegation.
Tasnim Jara said, “Khaleda Zia has always fought above party lines. Everyone, regardless of political affiliation, should pray for her.”
Nasiruddin Patwari said the former prime minister had been denied proper treatment while Sheikh Hasina was in power. “Now, apart from seeking prayers, there is nothing we can do. We ask the people of the country to pray for her,” he said.
Hasnat Abdullah alleged that Khaleda Zia had been deprived of proper treatment in jail. “Whenever any doctor came to treat her, they were harassed. In this way her health has gradually deteriorated,” he said.
He went on to pray that “Allah keeps Khaleda Zia alive until she can witness Sheikh Hasina’s execution following her downfall amid the public movement,” adding that the country was moving towards a democratic transition and expressing hope that Khaleda Zia would live to see it.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November with heart and lung infections, in addition to complications related to her kidneys, liver, arthritis and diabetes. She is currently receiving treatment in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that her condition remains “extremely critical,” citing doctors overseeing her care.
