National Citizen Party (NCP) Dhaka Metropolitan North expressed deep concern and strong condemnation regarding the attack and violence that occurred in the historic Shah Ali Mazar in Mirpur.
Joint Member Secretary (Office Secretary) of NCP Dhaka Metropolitan North Abdullah Al Monsur made these remarks in a press release on Saturday.
The organisation said such an attack on a site of religious and historical significance not only indicates a deterioration of law and order but is also an ominous sign for social harmony, coexistence, and public safety.
It asserted that violence and attacks can never be an acceptable path to resolve any differences or practices.
NCP-Dhaka North called upon the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure a fair and neutral investigation into the incident, bring those involved to justice swiftly, and take effective measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The organisation said rather than viewing a shrine solely as a centre for religious worship or practice, it is essential to focus on developing it as an open centre of social, humanitarian, and cultural harmony for all people, regardless of religion, sect, or differences.
Moreover, the statement highlighted the need for effective government initiatives to establish the shrine area as a safe, disciplined, and tolerant sanctuary for visitors, devotees, and the public arriving from across the country.
It maintained that ensuring an environment free from fear, violence, or disorder around these centres of religious and cultural heritage is the responsibility of both the state and society.
NCP urged people from all walks of life to remain calm, restrained, and to maintain harmony. The statement concluded by stating that both the government and the public must play a responsible role in protecting communal harmony and social stability in Bangladesh.
