Fans of the cult horror-fantasy ‘Tumbbad’ can now celebrate as acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has officially been confirmed for the sequel. The announcement came on March 2, following the collaboration between actor-producer Sohum Shah and veteran producer Dr Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios.

Siddiqui will take on a pivotal role, central to the folklore-driven narrative of the sequel. While the character remains shrouded in secrecy, the actor promises it will be “multi-layered” and immersive.

He said, “Tumbbad has always been a film I admired for its originality and atmosphere. When Sohum shared the vision for the sequel, I was immediately drawn to the story. I’m excited to explore this universe with such a passionate team.”

Shah added, “Bringing Nawazuddin on board elevates the narrative to a whole new level. His intensity and authenticity make him perfect for a character so crucial to the sequel’s emotional and psychological depth.” Dr Gada echoed the excitement, noting that Siddiqui’s versatility and screen presence will significantly enhance the cinematic experience.

The original Tumbbad, released in 2018, gradually became a cult favourite, with its 2024 re-release further cementing its status. The sequel’s production is yet to begin, but anticipation is high as the team promises a richer, darker exploration of the film’s folklore universe.

The first Tumbbad was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, with Anand Gandhi as creative director, co-directed by Adesh Prasad, and written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve and Gandhi. Sohum Shah also starred as Vinayak Rao, whose perilous journey drives the original story.
