A fire claimed the lives of a woman and her infant at their residence in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Apeya Khatun, 30, wife of Jhantu Miah, and her one-year-old daughter, Rowja Khatun.
Mohammad Ataur Rahman, in charge of Gurudaspur Fire Service Station, said the fire broke out around 4:30am. Upon receiving the alert, firefighters rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control by 5am.
A primary investigation of the Fire Service suggests that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit.
Gurudaspur Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Shafiqur Zaman said they promptly visited the site after being informed. The bodies were handed over to the victims’ family.
