Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi came into discussion for his active politics in defence of the rights of July martyrs, the movement against Awami League atrocities, and opposing India’s big brotherly attitude.
He was shot on 12 December after Jumma prayers in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar in Dhaka.
Hadi died at around 9:45pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore, sparking an immediate wave of anger and grief.
Students and general people have continued protests and road blockades across Bangladesh from Thursday night through Friday, demanding justice and the arrest of those responsible for his death.
Kushtia
The Prothom Alo office at Majampur Gate in Kushtia town was attacked and vandalised by agitated people at around 1:30am on Thursday night.
During the attack, the office signboard, doors and windows of a room and various pieces of furniture were damaged, while slogans were chanted, witnesses said.
Jhenaidah
In Jhenaidah, protests turned violent as demonstrators vandalised houses and business establishments on Thursday night. The house of a former district council chairman was attacked and set on fire before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
Cumilla
Protests were held at Cumilla University and in Kandirpar, where students staged late-night demonstrations on Thursday condemning the killing and chanting anti-Indian slogans.
Rangpur
At Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, students gathered near media points late at night on Thursday before marching to the main gate, where leaders of Inqilab Mancha and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement addressed protesters.
Nilphamari
In Nilphamari, July fighters and anti-discrimination student leaders held an immediate protest march on Thursday night, blocking roads at Chowrangi Mor and briefly halting traffic.
The protests reflect growing nationwide anger over Hadi’s death, with demonstrators warning that agitation will continue until those responsible are brought to justice.
Rajshahi
In Rajshahi, the National Citizen Party organised a protest march from Saheb Bazar Zero Point after Jumma prayers on Friday, which moved through city roads before ending with a rally at the same spot.
Separately, Rajshahi University students, including RUCSU representatives, held a march from the central mosque through residential halls to the library area.
Sylhet
Protests in Sylhet began shortly after midnight on Thursday. On Friday, students and members of the public gathered at the central Shaheed Minar after Jumma prayers, while Inqilab Mancha, the National Citizen Party, Islami Chhatra Shibir and other groups held separate marches.
Satkhira
In Satkhira, protests included marches, rallies, a symbolic funeral prayer in absentia and special prayers. Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir organised the funeral prayer at Asif Square on Khulna Road on Friday afternoon, followed by a protest march.
Munshiganj
In Munshiganj, students and local residents held a protest rally and rallying assembly. After Friday’s Jumma prayers, a procession began at the central Shaheed Minar in the town and marched through several streets before ending at the Super Market area.
Tangail
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad organised a protest march and rally in Tangail, demanding the hanging of those responsible.
The district unit brought out a procession at around 3pm on Friday, which paraded through key roads before concluding with a brief assembly in front of the Tangail Press Club.
Khagrachari
In Khagrachari, July Oikya Mancha and several other organisations staged demonstrations after jumma prayers on Friday afternoon. Led by Jamaat leader Advocate Yakub Ali Chowdhury, a procession was brought out from the Court Mosque, with worshippers from other mosques joining in protest.
Meherpur
July Oikya Parishad organised a protest march and rally in Meherpur on Friday afternoon, demanding the immediate arrest and trial of those involved in Hadi’s death. The procession began from Court Mor in the town.
Barishal
Students and members of the public held a protest rally and march in Barishal, blocking the Dhaka–Barishal highway near Nathullabad Bus Stand after jumma prayers on Friday. The procession later moved through major roads and ended with a demonstration in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall, following prayers for Hadi’s soul.
Dinajpur
Prayer gatherings were held in several mosques across Dinajpur on Friday, seeking forgiveness for Hadi’s soul.
Alongside these, various organisations and students staged protest marches and rallies demanding justice.
Madaripur
In Madaripur’s Mostafapur, protesters blocked the Dhaka–Barishal highway after Friday prayers in the afternoon.
Demonstrations were also held in Shibchar, Rajoir, Kalkini and Dasar upazilas, where speakers issued an ultimatum to the government to arrest those responsible.
Gaibandha
In Gaibandha, protesters blocked the main road near the central bus terminal, halting traffic.
After Friday’s Jumma prayers, a march started from the Old Market Mosque and ended at the bus terminal, where demonstrators maintained a blockade.
Chuadanga
Students and members of the public in Chuadanga held protest marches, rallies and prayer sessions on Friday afternoon. A rally was held at Boro Bazar Choumatha, followed by a procession through key roads and prayers for Hadi’s soul.
Gazipur
In Gazipur, students and activists blocked the busy Dhaka–Mymensingh highway at Chandana Chaurasta after Friday prayers, chanting slogans demanding justice and the arrest of those responsible.
Lakshmipur
In Lakshmipur, students and residents brought out coffin marches after Friday prayers, starting from Chawk Bazar Mosque and ending at North Temuhani, where a brief rally was held.
Netrokona
In Netrokona, leaders and activists from the National Citizen Party and other groups marched from the central Shaheed Minar to the Press Club around 11am on Friday, followed by a short protest rally.
