The 5th National Squash Championship 2025 began on 13 October at Bashundhara Sports City in Dhaka with a vibrant opening ceremony. The event is being held at the squash court of the Zulkan Indoor Arena and will run until 16 October, featuring 180 participants from across the country.
The tournament was inaugurated by Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, who released balloons and unveiled the tournament jersey to mark the occasion.
Also present were Brigadier General (Retired) G M Kamrul Islam, SPP, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Squash Federation, along with executive committee members, Faez Rahman, Director of Urmi Group, Abdul Bari, Media Adviser to the Chairman of Bashundhara Group, and Major (Retired) Mohsinul Karim, Director of Bashundhara Sports City. Current and former players and guardians also attended the ceremony.
In his speech, the chief guest said that squash in Bangladesh has made notable progress over the last four years and expressed hope for a promising future. Federation General Secretary Kamrul Islam stated that the aim of the tournament is to spread squash nationwide, develop new players, and raise the standard of the game to an international level.
Urmi Group’s representative Faez Rahman said the company will continue supporting the development and promotion of squash. Major (Retired) Mohsinul Karim confirmed that Bashundhara Group remains committed to reviving squash in Bangladesh and supporting the federation’s efforts.
This is the fifth edition of the national championship, organised by the Bangladesh Squash Federation with sponsorship from Urmi Group and Turag Active.
A five-year agreement has been signed between Bashundhara Group and the Bangladesh Squash Federation to further develop the sport. Under this agreement, players will have access to all facilities at Bashundhara Sports City and will also have opportunities to compete internationally.
According to the organisers, the regional phase concluded on 1 October with 180 players from 25 institutions. From that group, 80 players have been selected for the final round, now being contested across nine categories. These include open women, open men, open member, under-11, ages 12 to 13, and ages 14 to 15 for both boys and girls.
The final phase is being played in a round-robin league format. The final match and prize-giving ceremony will be held at 3 PM on 16 October at Bashundhara Sports City.

East West University, United International University, IUB, Mirpur Ideal Commerce College, BAF Shaheen College, Bhashantek Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, Shaheed Anwar College, Bhashantek School, Kalshi Islamiya High School, Golden Bengal Ideal School, Fatema Aziz School, Jamuripara School in Thakurgaon, Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, Nirjhar Cantonment Public School, Kalachandpur School and College, Uttara Club, Gulshan Club, Chattogram Club, Habiganj High School, Uttara Police College and Dhaka Squash Academy.
Players in the open men’s group include:
Suman and Arif from Uttara Club, Saikat from Gulshan Club, Saiful from Chattogram Club, Saimun, Parvez and Aminul from BKSP, and Roni, Shahadat, Masum, Apon, Rakib, Aziz, Nayeb, Sazzad and Sharif representing the Army.
In the women’s group:
Urdu and Jyoti from IUB, Rafia from Shaheed Anwar College, Nabila from Nirjhar School, Chandni Sarker from Uttara Police College, Fahmida and Meghna from Bhashantek School, and Mim from Golden Bengal School.
In the open member group:
Fazle Wali, Walid Hasan, Zakir Md Hossain, Md Abu Kaisar, Ashiqur Rahman, Md Raihan, Brigadier General Aziz, Md Ahsan, Lieutenant Colonel Sams, Mohammed Haque Alif, Brigadier General Asad, Sadman Uddin Khan, Barrister Sarwar and Md Mobin are among the competitors who will vie for top honours over the next four days.
