Minhajul Abedin Nannu will become a Bangladesh Cricket Board director without contest after Shariful Islam withdrew from the election race in the Chattogram division category.
Shariful, a councillor from Feni District Sports Association, had planned to contest alongside Moin Uddin Chowdhury. His late withdrawal confirmed Nannu and Moin as unopposed directors from the division before voting day.
Several other divisions also produced uncontested candidates ahead of the June 7 BCB election. Saeed Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad secured places from the Dhaka division category. Mirza Faisal Amin from Thakurgaon and Mir Shakhrul Alam Shimanto from Bogura also moved through unchallenged from Rangpur and Rajshahi respectively.
Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury secured the Sylhet division position without opposition. Khulna remains one of the few competitive division races. Shafiqul Alam will contest against Shantanu Islam and Abdus Salam for two positions.
The Barishal division contest will feature Fortune Barishal owner Mizanur Rahman against Muntasir Alam Chowdhury. Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir also secured election from Category-3 as the lone nominee.
The club category still carries the biggest battle. Initially 18 candidates planned to contest for 12 positions, but Lutfor Rahman Badal of Legends of Rupganj and Mahmud Ur Rahman of Old DOHS withdrew from the race. Sixteen candidates will now fight for the remaining seats.
Tamim Iqbal will contest from Old DOHS Sports Club. Fahim Sinha will represent Abahani Limited, while Mirza Yasir Abbas, Israfil Khosru, Masuduzzaman and former director Amjad Hossain also remain in the race.
The BCB election will produce 23 directors across three categories. Ten directors will come from districts and divisions, 12 from the club category and one from Category-3. The National Sports Council will later nominate two additional directors to complete the board.
