The International Crimes Tribunal‑1 has indicted former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh in a case over the killings of nine people in Mohammadpur during the July mass uprising.
With this order, the trial has formally begun. The tribunal set 8 June for the prosecution’s opening statement and the recording of witness testimony.
Hearings on charge framing against Nanak, Taposh and 26 others concluded on 26 April. Three charges have been brought against the accused in the case.
Former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, former additional DIG Proloy Kumar Joarder, former joint commissioner of DMP Biplob Kumar Sarkar as well as leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations are among the 28 accused.
