The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the candidacy of MA Quayum in Dhaka‑11 constituency on allegations of dual citizenship and concealment of information.
Following the order, there is no legal bar for BNP candidate Quayum to take part in the upcoming 13th national election.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md Asif Hasan pronounced the order on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), filed the petition with the relevant branch of the High Court, seeking suspension of Quayum’s candidacy in Dhaka‑11.
Lawyers Zahidul Islam Musa and Ali Azgar Sharifi represented Nahid in the hearing, while lawyers Ahsanul Karim and Ruhul Quddus Kajol appeared for the BNP candidate.
Previously, the Election Commission declared valid the nomination papers of both Nahid and Quayum.
