A winter afternoon could not cool the atmosphere at Mymensingh District Stadium as Mymensingh College secured their second successive divisional title with a commanding 4–0 victory over Bakshiganj Government Qiyamat Ullah College of Jamalpur in the inter-college football final.
The 60-minute showpiece, staged on Wednesday as part of the Tarunyer Utsab 2025 celebrations, was effectively settled by the hosts’ early dominance. Wearing the number 10 shirt, Maruf was the standout performer, scoring twice and repeatedly unsettling the Jamalpur defence with his close control and movement. Independence and Faisal added the other goals to complete a comprehensive win.
Bakshiganj pressed hard and showed determination throughout, but they were unable to break through a well-organised Mymensingh back line, leaving the hosts firmly in control from start to finish.
The trophy presentation followed at 3.30 pm in a festive setting. Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammy, NDC, presented the champions and runners-up with trophies and a combined cash prize of 60,000 taka.
Maruf was named man of the match for his two goals and overall influence. Mymensingh’s Independence finished as the tournament’s top scorer, while Jamalpur midfielder Kaiser was named player of the tournament despite his team’s defeat, recognised for his consistent performances throughout the competition.
The final was attended by the principal of Mymensingh College, SM Shafiqul Haider Mukul, alongside teachers from Bakshiganj Government Qiyamat Ullah College. Students, staff and local supporters filled the stands, turning the stadium into a lively meeting point for the community.
The tournament began on 21 December with the support of the Department of Sports under the Ministry of Youth and Sports and was organised by the divisional administration. Eight teams took part, comprising champions and runners-up from the division’s four districts. As per the competition format, both finalists will represent Mymensingh at the national stage in Dhaka.
