Rangpur Riders moved to the top of the Bangladesh Premier League table after chasing down Chattogram Royals’ 169 to win by five wickets, completing the pursuit with seven balls to spare.
Set 170 to win, Rangpur reached 170 for 5 in 18.5 overs, finishing the job through a calm, unbeaten 30 from Mahmudullah off 19 balls after early momentum had given way to a tense middle phase.
Chattogram, batting first, put up a competitive 169 for 5. Adam Rossington anchored the innings with a fluent 58 from 41 balls, providing stability through the middle overs, while Hasan Nawaz supplied late acceleration with 46 off 38, including three sixes.
Rangpur’s bowlers kept the total in check with timely strikes. Mustafizur Rahman removed both openers on his way to figures of 2 for 32, while Akif Javed took 2 for 29, disrupting the middle order just as Chattogram threatened to push beyond par.
The chase was shaped by a ferocious start from Kyle Mayers. The left-hander tore into the powerplay with 50 from just 25 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes to put Rangpur firmly ahead of the rate.
After Mayers fell, the contest tightened. Shoriful Islam sparked a brief revival for Chattogram with a three-wicket burst, and although Dawid Malan made 30 and Towhid Hridoy added 17, wickets at regular intervals increased the pressure heading into the closing overs.
Mahmudullah’s composure proved decisive. Picking his moments, he found key boundaries and managed the chase alongside captain Nurul Hasan, ensuring Rangpur maintained control and secured another measured victory to extend their winning momentum.
