MS Dhoni believes India will be one of the most dangerous teams at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
India enter the tournament as defending champions. Their recent record speaks loud. Since October 2023, they have won 51 matches and lost only eight in T20 internationals.
The team has power in batting and quality in bowling. India have some of the best six hitters in the game. They also have strong options with the ball, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy.
Dhoni said the team looks complete in every way.
“What all is needed in a good team, everything is there,” Dhoni said at an event. “They have the experience, especially when it comes to this format. The experience is vast. They have played under pressure. Whoever is playing whatever roles they are playing in the team, they have been in that situation for a considerable period of time.”
One factor still worries him. It is dew in night matches. He feels it can change games and make the toss very important.
“What worries me, again, I hate dew,” he said.
“Dew changes a lot of things. Even when I was playing, something that really scared me was dew, where the toss becomes crucial.”
Dhoni also pointed to the nature of T20 cricket. He said results can change quickly because the format allows surprises.
“If we are playing ten matches against some of the best teams, we will come out as winners more often than not, if the conditions are neutral and all of that,” he said.
“The problem is when some of your players have a day off and somebody from the opposition has a brilliant day. It can happen in T20 cricket.”
He said such moments can come at any stage of the tournament. That is when luck also plays a role.
“That is the time when all the praying is needed. Nobody should get injured. Whatever roles are given, people should accomplish their roles for the team.”
Dhoni ended with a strong note of belief.
“If that is the case, I do not want to jinx it, but it is one of the most dangerous teams.”
