Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Moscow after being injured in a joint US-Israel airstrike.
The 54-year-old leader was flown to Russia at the personal invitation of President Vladimir Putin following a phone conversation between the two leaders on 12 March.
According to reports from Kuwait-based news outlet Al-Jarida, Mojtaba Khamenei arrived in Moscow on the same day via a Russian military aircraft. Despite inquiries, the Kremlin and Russian state news agency TASS have not issued any official comments on the matter.
The attack, which occurred on 28 February, marked the beginning of the Iran-US-Israel conflict.
It resulted in the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as several members of his family. Mojtaba Khamenei, who was severely injured in the attack, succeeded his father as the Supreme Leader of Iran after his death.
While international media have reported that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained serious injuries, Iranian sources claim he suffered only a foot injury, which is not life-threatening.
Russia has, meanwhile, refused to confirm or deny reports regarding the treatment of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who was injured in a joint US-Israeli airstrike. Speaking to the TASS news agency, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated, “We never comment on such reports.”
According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Khamenei was wounded in the attack but is reportedly in stable condition.
The ministry confirmed that the new Supreme Leader sustained severe injuries to his leg, arm, and hand. Despite the severity of the injuries, sources have indicated that Khamenei is doing well.
