A Dhaka court deferred until 21 May the hearing on framing charges in a case over killing of a trucker in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur during the July uprising, involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and 33 others.
Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Rabbiul Alam set the date on Tuesday following a petition from the defence lawyers.
However, Palak informed his lawyer that he suffered an injury to his neck while being taken to the jail in a prison van from the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday. He has sought medical treatment and asked his lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi to file an application in court.
Palak wants an MRI scan, his Farzana Yeasmin Rakhi said. The lawyer also confirmed she has been instructed to file an application for better medical treatment but could not do so on Tuesday due to time constraints. She said she will file the application on Wednesday.
The defence sought more time for the charge framing hearing, which the court accepted.
Earlier, during the July movement on 19 July, truck driver Md Hossain was shot dead in Mohammadpur. Two others, Sazzad and Shahin, were also injured.
Following Hossain’s death, his mother Mosa Rina Begum filed a case on 31 August 2024, naming 16 people, including Hasina.
After investigation, on 23 November 2025, investigation officer Sub-Inspector Md Akramuzzaman of Mohammadpur Police Station submitted a charge sheet against 34 people.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina and Palak, the accused include former Awami League general secretary and former transport minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, president and general secretary of now banned BCL, Saddam Hossain and Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, Asif Ahmed, Tarequzzaman Rajib, Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, Nur Mohammad Sentu, Tofael Siddique alias Tuhin, Rahman Miah alias AKM Ohidur Rahman, Palash, Oliur Rahman, Khalilur Rahman, Imon, SM Riajul Haque Tamim, Masudur Rahman Biplob, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan alias MA Sattar, Parvez alias Golden Parvez, Suman Miah alias Kaila Suman, Milon Hossain, Sohel alias Bhuiya Sohel alias Buniya Sohel, Salim Ullah Solu, Irfan, Md Badiul Alam alias Badiazzaman, Furkan Hossain, Shahjahan Khan, Sazzad Hossain, Faruk Hossain Ovi and Naimul Hasan Russell.
Among the accused, Palak, Sadek, Furkan and Shahjahan are currently in custody.
