A “snatcher” was allegedly killed and another injured in a mob beating during a snatching incident on Chandrima Model Town Road in Mohammadpur area of the capital on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Yamin (23), son of Mahbub from Dhaka Udyan area. The injured mugger, identified as Fahim, was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, witnesses said.
AKM Mehedi Hasan, assistant commissioner of police (Mohammadpur Zone), said that local residents caught the two muggers while they was snatching a mobile phone.
An angry mob beat the snatchers up indiscriminately, leaving them injured critically. They were rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Yamin dead.
The police officer said the mobile phone stolen has been recovered. Separate cases were filed with Mohammadpur Police Station in connection with the incident.
