Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh president Mohammad Mithun said the move by the Bulbul-led Bangladesh Cricket Board to bring Shakib Al Hasan back was only a ‘publicity stunt.’
The previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul tried to bring Shakib back to the country. But the plan did not work. Now the BCB is running under an ad hoc committee.
Mithun spoke in Mirpur on Friday. He said, “It is possible for Shakib to return to the country — I certainly believe that. However, some flexibility from the government is needed here. The cases or issues he has must first be worked on to find how they can be resolved.”
He also said, “There is no doubt about his ability from a cricketing perspective. If he can complete the necessary formalities and return to the country, every fan and person in Bangladesh will be happy.”
Mithun said too much noise has been made on this issue. “There has been a lot of talk about this matter. Personally, I feel there has been more ‘publicity stunt’ than real work regarding Shakib bhai. Many have used his name just to come into the news.”
He added, “Instead of this, if anyone truly wants to do something for him, they should discuss with the government and try to resolve his issues properly. The main goal should be to ensure that he can return to Bangladesh.”
