Police recovered the partially decomposed body of a man from a ditch in Senbag, Noakhali, on Monday night, three days after he went missing while visiting his sister.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 60.
Senbag Police Station Officer-in-charge Abdur Rahim Sarkar confirmed the matter.
According to police and locals, Abul was admitted to Senbag Upazila Health Complex on 23 July due to illness. He later left the hospital with a medical cannula attached to his hand to visit his sister in Binnaguni village. He went missing after leaving her house despite extensive searches by his relatives.
Locals discovered the body in a ditch in Binnaguni village under ward number 7 of Senbag municipality after noticing a foul odour and informed police.
The OC Abdur said, the body was sent to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report, he added.
