Miscreants killed a man and injured his wife in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. Police have since detained one person on suspicion of involvement.
Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Sarwar confirmed the matter. The incident occurred around 12:30am on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam.
According to Nazrul’s wife, Shahanaj Begum, a group of four to five masked men called out her husband’s name. After the couple opened the door, the masked men entered, tied her husband’s hands and feet, and beat him. They also tied her hands, feet, and neck before beating her and taking the keys to the almirah.
Shahanaj said the attackers strangled Nazrul Islam to death because he had recognised his assailants. She added that the intruders looted Tk60,000 in cash and around five bhori of gold jewellery, with the total value of the stolen goods amounting to Tk12 lakh.
OC Sarwar said the matter is being investigated. Initially, no signs of robbery were found. A person named Ujjal has been detained for questioning regarding the murder.
