BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas remains under close medical observation after undergoing brain surgery, with doctors saying a CT scan conducted on Saturday morning showed encouraging results.
“His CT scan was done in the morning and the report is good,” said BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam while providing an update on Saturday afternoon.
He said a medical board is monitoring Abbas’s condition round the clock and keeping him under strict supervision.
Rafiqul Islam said Abbas will remain under intensive observation by the medical board for at least 72 hours.
The medical board includes Evercare Hospital Dhaka physicians Professor Ali Uzzaman Joarder, Professor Kazi Din Mohammad, Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, Professor Raziul Haque, Professor Syed Sayeed Ahmed, Professor Kader Sheikh and Professor Shafiqul Islam, among others.
The board decided at a meeting on Friday to carry out urgent brain surgery on Abbas.
The operation began at around 3:10pm and ended at about 7:00pm, after which he was shifted to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit.
Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday after he suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness during iftar.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited him at the hospital on Friday afternoon.
