Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid and State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, MP, on Saturday inspected preparations for programmes marking National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 in Katiadi and Pakundia of Kishoreganj.
The programmes are scheduled to be held on Sunday.
The ministers visited the venue for the central inaugural ceremony at Achmita George Institute Mini Stadium in Katiadi, the Achmita Government Carp Hatchery Complex and the site for releasing fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in Pakundia.
During the inspection, they reviewed the overall preparations for the programmes, including the stage, seating arrangements for guests, security, entry and exit routes, traffic management, venue decoration and the site designated for releasing fish fry.
They also instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the scheduled programmes are carried out smoothly and properly.
The central inauguration of National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 will be held in Katiadi on Sunday. Fish fry will also be released into the Old Brahmaputra River at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in Pakundia on the same day.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the central inaugural ceremony as chief guest and release fish fry.
This year’s theme for National Fisheries Fortnight is “Self-reliant nation through silver fisheries, Bangladesh first”.
Outstanding fisheries entrepreneurs and farmers selected at the national level will be honoured at Sunday’s programme.
The event will also highlight various aspects of fisheries sector development, increased production, sustainable management of fishery resources, safe fish production and measures to encourage fish farmers.
Ahead of the prime minister’s visit to Katiadi and Pakundia and the central programme of National Fisheries Fortnight, the local administration, Department of Fisheries and other relevant agencies have taken coordinated preparations.
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) MP Advocate Md Jalal Uddin, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Secretary Md Delwar Hossain, Department of Fisheries Director General Dr Md Khaled Konok, and officials from the ministry, Department of Fisheries, district and upazila administrations and law enforcement agencies were present during the inspection.
