Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a consignment of 2,00,100 pieces of ownerless Burmese Yaba tablets during an anti-smuggling drive in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
A special patrol team of the Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) carried out the raid in the Dochhari and Tondulermukh areas under Kachhapia union of the upazila at around 3:30am on Saturday.
According to BGB officials, the special patrol team launched the operation after receiving information about the presence of smugglers in the Dochhari and Tondulermukh area, located approximately 8 kilometres west of border pillar 48/4-S and the zero line inside Bangladesh territory. Sensing the presence of the border guards, the smugglers fled the scene, abandoning a sack they were carrying.
Upon searching the abandoned sack, BGB patrol members recovered the 2,00,100 pieces of Burmese Yaba tablets, which were contained inside 20 packets. However, no arrests could be made in connection with the incident as the suspects managed to escape.
Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Fayzul Kabir said, “BGB’s operations continue to protect the country’s border, prevent smuggling and human trafficking, control illegal entry, recover illegal weapons, and prevent drug trafficking.”
He further emphasised, “BGB is working under a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Strict surveillance is being maintained to prevent smuggling in the border areas.”
The BGB said legal procedures are being followed to take further action regarding the recovered drugs.
