The government has formulated a plan to invest five percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the education sector, Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon announced on Thursday.
The minister shared this information while addressing a seminar as the chief guest on “Strengthening Innovative Trends in the Classroom”, organised by UNICEF at a hotel in the capital on Thursday morning.
Minister Milon noted that during the tenure of the previous government, investment in the education sector never exceeded 1.5 percent. He emphasised that the current government is working to increase this investment specifically to develop skilled human capital.
The education minister further said along with ensuring education at the primary level, it is essential to increase skills. He criticised the previous administration’s failure regarding digital classrooms, citing a lack of accountability and transparency.
The minister added that the current government is moving towards establishing interactive digital classrooms in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s commitment.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Adviser Mahdi Amin said initiatives have been taken to ensure skill development alongside primary education.
He mentioned that a long-term plan has been adopted to create digital and active classrooms.
Furthermore, the adviser revealed that the government aims to include a third language of international standard in the curriculum, alongside Bengali and English.
