Legendary Bangladeshi rock band Miles has paid an emotional tribute to its longtime frontman Shafin Ahmed on the second anniversary of his death, remembering him as one of the band’s defining pillars and celebrating his extraordinary contribution to Bangla band music.
In a heartfelt message shared on the band’s official Facebook page on Friday (24 July), Miles reflected on more than four decades of musical partnership with Shafin Ahmed and honoured the legacy he left behind.
“Today, on Shafin Ahmed’s second death anniversary, we remember him with deep respect and love,” the band wrote. “Shafin Ahmed was one of the pillars of Miles. For more than four decades, he elevated the band’s identity and journey to remarkable heights as its lead vocalist, bass guitarist and composer.”
The tribute also highlighted several of Shafin Ahmed’s timeless songs, including Prothom Premer Moto, Ki Jadu, Pahari Meye, Jatiyo Sangeeter Ditiyo Line and Pata Jhore Jay. It also acknowledged his memorable performances on songs composed by Manam Ahmed, including Chand Tara, Dhiki Dhiki, Jwala Jwala and Phiriye Dao, describing them as enduring examples of his creative brilliance.
Miles said Shafin Ahmed’s distinctive voice, groove-driven bass playing, exceptional musical instincts and electrifying stage presence made every performance unforgettable. The band added that his contribution played a vital role in establishing Miles as one of Bangladesh’s leading rock-fusion bands.
Concluding the tribute, the band wrote: “His creations and the music he left behind will live forever in every melody, every stage and in the hearts of millions of listeners.”
Shafin Ahmed fell ill during a visit to the United States in July 2024, where he had travelled to perform at a concert. He died on 24 July while undergoing treatment at a hospital there. His body was later brought back to Bangladesh and laid to rest at Banani Graveyard in Dhaka.
Born in 1961, Shafin Ahmed remains one of the most influential figures in Bangla band music. During his long career with Miles, he delivered numerous timeless hits, including Neela, Aj Jonmodin Tomar and Piyasi Mon. Though he is no longer alive, his voice, compositions and musical legacy continue to resonate with millions of music lovers.
