The measles situation in Bangladesh continues to deteriorate, with six more deaths and 1,445 new cases reported across the country in the last 24 hours.
According to press release issued on Tuesday by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 1,186 suspected measles cases and 259 laboratory-confirmed cases were identified during this period.
Of the six fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours, two were confirmed measles deaths, while four were suspected deaths involving patients with symptoms.
Data from the DGHS Integrated Control Centre reveals that since the current outbreak began on 15 March, the total number of suspected measles patients has reached 42,979, while the number of confirmed cases stands at 5,726.
Dhaka division remains the most heavily affected region, recording 545 suspected cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Chattogram with 204 and Rajshahi with 174. Since mid-March, Dhaka division has topped the list with a total of 19,502 patients.
Regarding the latest fatalities, both confirmed deaths occurred in Dhaka division. The four suspected deaths were reported in Sylhet (two), Khulna (one), and Rajshahi (one). To date, Dhaka district has recorded the highest number of confirmed measles deaths, totaling two.
In the last 24 hours, 989 new patients were admitted to various hospitals with measles symptoms. This includes 417 new admissions in Dhaka, 197 in Chattogram, and 97 in Barishal.
Since 15 March, a total of 29,831 patients have been hospitalised nationwide, of whom 26,368 have been discharged following recovery. The total death toll since the start of the outbreak currently stands at 54 confirmed measles cases and 263 suspected cases.
To curb the spread of the disease, the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026 has been underway. Between 5 April and 5 May, a total of 161,197,737 people were vaccinated across the country, representing 101% of the designated target. In the last 24 hours alone, 526,009 children received the vaccine.
