Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said a “massive street movement” would be launched to establish what he described as a corruption-free, extortion-free and politically neutral “humane Bangladesh.”
He said the country must prepare for what he called an inevitable political transformation aimed at restoring accountability and justice.
Speaking as the chief guest at a divisional rally of 11 political parties held at Khulna Circuit House ground, Shafiqur Rahman alleged that his party had been deprived of political power through what he described as electoral “manipulation and engineering.”
“Even then, we accepted the results to avoid civil unrest,” he said.
Issuing a stern warning, Shafiqur Rahman said that if the “July Charter” is not implemented, the country’s future would be decided on the streets rather than in Parliament.
“The final decision will be taken on the streets, not in Parliament,” he said.
The rally was presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar.
Other speakers included Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman retired Colonel Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mamunul Haque, and National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Nasiruddin Patwary.
Earlier in the day, leaders and activists from 11 political parties across all 10 districts of the Khulna division joined the programme, arriving in processions at the rally venue.
