Two members of the pioneering Bangladeshi rock band Aurthohin, drummer Mark Don and guitarist Ehtesham Ali Moeen, announced on Thursday that they are leaving the band, marking another major shift in the group’s evolving lineup.
Both musicians shared separate statements on Facebook confirming their departure and reflecting on their time with the band.
Mark Don, who had been with Aurthohin for nearly a decade, described the experience as deeply personal and transformative. In his message, he wrote that his journey with the band had “come to an end,” adding that the years went far beyond music and were filled with memories of growth, perseverance, and camaraderie.
He recalled recording sessions for albums such as Cancer Er Nishikabyo and the emotionally demanding work behind Phoenixer Diary 1 and Phoenixer Diary 2. Don also reflected on life on the road, intense rehearsals, and the challenges of live performances, including moments when the band faced overwhelming crowds during concerts.
“Through every comeback I gave this band everything I had,” he wrote, expressing gratitude to fans for their support over the years and wishing the band continued success.
Guitarist Ehtesham Ali Moeen, who joined the band in 2025, also confirmed his departure in a brief statement. He thanked fans and bandmates for the experiences they shared on stage and in rehearsal rooms.
“As I move forward into the next chapter of my musical journey, I’ll be continuing independently, exploring new creative directions and challenging myself to grow further as an artist,” Moeen wrote, while wishing the band the best for the future.
Earlier this week, Aurthohin had hinted at upcoming developments through a social media post saying, “Stay tuned for the big news!”
Formed in Dhaka in 1998 by bassist–vocalist Saidus Salehin Khaled Sumon, guitarist Tonmoy Rahman, rhythm guitarist Ponir and drummer Rumi Rahman, Aurthohin is widely regarded as one of the pioneering bands in Bangladesh’s rock and metal scene. Over the years, the band has gone through several lineup changes while releasing influential albums and songs that shaped the country’s alternative rock movement.
Throughout its history, notable members have included musicians such as Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Shishir Ahmed, Raef Al Hasan Rafa, Mahaan Fahim, Minhajuddin Ahmed, Muntasir Mamun, Russel Rahman and Zahin Rashid.
Most recently, the band’s core lineup featured Sumon alongside Mark Don on drums and Ehtesham Ali Moeen on guitar.
With two more members stepping away, fans are now waiting to see what the next chapter holds for Aurthohin, one of the most influential names in Bangladeshi rock.
