Lionel Messi’s final appearance for Argentina has left Bangladeshi celebrities reflecting on the memories built around one of football’s most celebrated careers.
Messi signed off from international football in style, scoring once and providing two assists as Argentina defeated Benin 3-0.
His final appearance in the iconic blue-and-white shirt quickly became an emotional moment for fans around the world, including several Bangladeshi stars.
Dhallywood actresses Purnima and Pori Moni, along with television actor Irfan Sajjad, shared their feelings about Messi’s farewell on social media.
Purnima summed up the mixed emotions of watching the Argentine legend in the national jersey for what may be the final time. “All the sadness in life on one side, and on the other, the pain of perhaps seeing Messi in Argentina’s jersey for the last time,” she wrote.
For Pori Moni, the occasion represented more than the end of a football match. She described it as the closing chapter of an era and recalled the countless nights she spent watching Messi play, celebrating his goals and sharing the disappointment of defeats.
She also remembered Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph, particularly the unforgettable sight of Messi lifting the trophy.
“Farewell? No, Leo, you will remain in football history. The Argentina jersey will change, generations will change, but the story of No. 10 will never end,” Pori Moni wrote.
Irfan Sajjad also paid tribute to Messi, describing him as the magician of their golden era.
“Even though your journey is ending, you will remain in our memories forever. One last time, Lionel Messi,” he wrote.
Messi’s final international appearance also carried a landmark of its own, as his goal took his Argentina tally to 126.
For millions of supporters, however, the statistics mattered less than the emotional weight of seeing the legendary No. 10 take the field in Argentina’s colours for the final time.
