Lord Peter Mandelson has been granted bail following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
The former Labour minister is accused of sharing sensitive information with convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein while serving as business secretary. Allegations regarding his links to the disgraced billionaire surfaced after the release of the latest batch of Epstein files.
The family of Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, responded to Mandelson’s arrest. In a statement, Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law, Sky and Amanda Roberts, praised the British authorities for taking “meaningful action” and handling the Epstein files with the “urgency they demand.”
Police said Mandelson, who was dismissed as US ambassador in September 2025, was arrested after search warrants were executed at two properties in Wiltshire and Camden. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to chair Cabinet on Tuesday amid mounting scrutiny over his decision to appoint Mandelson as US ambassador, with criticism coming even from members of his own party.
