A man allegedly killed his wife after she refused to give money for drugs in Jashore Sadar Upazila.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Khan confirmed the matter. The incident occurred around 5:30am on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Samira Islam, 20. Her husband is named Sujan, 26.
According to locals, the couple lived in a rented house belonging to Sujan’s maternal uncle. An argument broke out between them demanding money for drugs while they were at the residence. During the altercation, Sujan repeatedly stabbed Samira with a sharp knife.
To mislead the incident, the husband locked the door and inflicted several knife wounds on his own body. Locals and relatives rescued them and transported them to Jashore General Hospital.
Following an examination, the doctor at the emergency department declared Samira dead.
OC Masud said, “It is primarily suspected that the murder might have occurred from a quarrel between the husband and wife over drug money. The husband also attempted suicide. He is admitted to the hospital.”
He added that Samira’s body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. Legal action is under process.
