A former Additional District and Sessions Judge of Gaibandha was killed after being run over by a truck in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Awal Sarkar, 56.
Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mohammad Amanullah confirmed the incident on Monday morning.
According to police and witnesses, the accident occurred around 10:30pm near the Bamandanga filling station area on Sundarganj–Rangpur regional highway.
He was returning home to Sundarganj from Gaibandha town by motorcycle when a truck hit him from behind, throwing him onto the road. He was then run over by the vehicle and died on the spot.
The OC said, the body was recovered and handed over to the family after completing legal procedures.
While the police have yet to seize the truck involved in the collision, the OC added that the victim’s family is currently preparing to file a case.
