A man was killed and several others injured in a clash over the land dispute in Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga early Wednesday morning.
The deceased, Shahidul Islam Dhali, 50, a resident of Muktarpur village, succumbed to his injuries at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
He had been critically injured during the altercation on Tuesday afternoon and was first treated at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Khulna.
Eyewitnesses and police said the incident occurred around 3pm in Fishpara area of Muktarpur village, when a disagreement over land between Shahidul and his cousin Barik Dhali escalated into a violent confrontation involving both families.
Alongside Shahidul, three more people – Shefali, Arabi, and Zahidul Islam-sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised.
Following the incident, police arrested Barik Dhali, 42, and Zahidul Islam Dhali, 29, both from the same village, in connection with the clash.
Shahidul’s brother, Shahin, alleged that the attack was premeditated, began from a longstanding land dispute.
Damurhuda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mezba Uddin confirmed that a case has been filed and the deceased’s body will be handed over to his family after post-mortem.
