A man and his nephew died from electrocution while working in a paddy field in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2pm in Bagan Math area of Banshbaria Union.
The victims were identified as Rafiqul Sarkar, 45, son of the late Jamshed Sarkar, and Nur Alam, 35, son of the late Abu Samar, both residents of Bagan Math village.
Banshbaria Union Parishad Chairman Nazmul Huda Jintu said that Rafiqul Sarkar was spraying pesticides in his paddy field when he accidentally touched a low-hanging electric wire connected to a motor, resulting in electrocution.
Seeing the incident, his nephew Nur Alam ran to help, but he also came into contact with the live wire and died instantly.Maheshpur Police Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan confirmed the deaths, explaining that both men were electrocuted while working in the field.
A case of accidental death will be filed in connection with the incident, he added.
