A man was hacked to death following a land dispute in Jhenaidah’s Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
Deceased Mahbub Hossain, 40, of Kala village, had returned home from Cambodia four months ago.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, said the body has been sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police are working to arrest the suspects, he said.
Faria Tahsin, a doctor of the hospital’s emergency department, said, “Mahbub had suffered deep cuts to his head, neck, back and waist. He succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.”
Mahbub’s cousin Ziarul Islam Zia, who claimed himself as a Jubo Dal activist, said, the victim became involved in politics with Jubo Dal after he returned from Combodia.
He had a long-standing dispute over land owned by one of their uncles, Humayun Mollah. Humayun is a local BNP leader, said Zia.
Zia also said, Mahbub was heading home around 10am when assailants from Humayun’s group attacked him from behind with sharp weapons. He was rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital but died later, Zia added.
